Guillermo Rico Azteca Robusto Review

Guillermo Rico Azteca Robusto Review

To be honest, I don't remember where I acquired this cigar. My favorite cigar, the Esteban Carreras Hellcat, was discovered the same way, maybe in the same batch, I really don't know but should really look into this source of these fine cigars.

Nice shiney, brown wrapper. Sponge feel, hope it is not hot and burning fast.

Well, first light was very mild, smooth and not very eventful. But, it is smoking decent and smooth and seems to not smoke hot or quick at all. Already I know this is a quality smoke, even though it hasn't really done much. Really loose draw, kind of mild but building flavors of roasted caramel and some cedar. Smoking really good, unfortunately got a defective spot, see picture.

But, seems to still smoke perfectly, won't touch it up unless needed.

Dropped it's one inch ash, along with the defective spot. I hope no more problems, as it tastes really good and it is so smooth. Seemed to go out, so I light her up again. Let's hope no more funny play.

Really starting to bring lots of creamy smoke which is what I like. I'm calling this a medium bodied and medium flavored smoke. Has some good aftertaste that most medium smokes can't do. No bite or bad taste at all.

About half way, 30 min in on this robusto.  I can taste it transitioning into a more robust med-full flavor, but still super smooth. Too bad it is starting to run a little  bit, so I touch it up.

Wow, lots of spiciness coming out now.  Really changing now to some bite, but a very good bite of pure flavor. You don't want smoke this playing golf. Seriously, sit back and enjoy this. This is a work of art, really hard to keep in check.

Still loose pull, but so smooth and flavorful. Even though not super strong, I can start to  feel it, goes great while drinking my George Dickel Rye 90 proof. Damn, starting to run again. Come on man, this could be such a great smoke. I'm really liking it, just wish it would come together as a more consistent  smoke. Complexity is too much.

I got an hour on this robusto and I like it it a lot. Really can tell it is all fine, aged tobaccos.

Would like to try a box. I like an interesting cigar and this is what it is all about.

I don't even know the prices of this but it is top notch. Will definitely try more, even if a high price. Such rich flavorful pulls of smoke. Maybe I found a gem or at least a very interesting cigar with very rich, deep flavors. Great late night smoke.

No hot burns, just deep  and smooth robust flavors. I'm a gonna burn my fingers to get all of this one. I'm a feeling it now and want to keep it going, but it's burning my fingers.

Definitely a cigar I want to try again. Just a few construction issues that need addressed, this could be a very high score with the best of them.

Overall: 92

Flavor 93, complexity 92, burn 87, experience 92, value 93.

Added Note: Researching this one and I cannot find it.  But, I think this is the same cigar as the Gran Habano Azteca, which is also obsolete now.  The one I had wrapper is identical, but mine says Guillermo Rico where the one's I find on the internet show Gran Habano.  I know both are made by Guillermo Rico, so I think these are identical cigars.  I am basing Value on past internet price of about $5.
