H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon Toro Review

H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon Toro Cigar Review

10/29/2022

Been smoking this cigar for 10 years or so.  This is my 3rd box and 1st with the new brown bands.  I really liked the red banded one.  Still have a couple left over, but will review the newer cigar.  I think it's the same blend: Cameroon wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and filler with Dominican / Nicaraguan / Peru tobaccos.

It's always been a medium smoke that was full of old style flavors. It's priced around $7 now, which is reasonable.  Let's see if this new one lives up to the old style reputation.

Right away it has an old style flavor of cedar, leather, and caramel.  Medium profile, easy draw, full of smoke.  Burning evenly.  I'd say most cigars that burn unevenly do it the first inch.  Usually, if no issue the 1st inch, you're good.

I just reviewed the H. Upmann 1844 Reserve, same Toro size, and it was plugged.  Not this one.  This one has about 6 months aging in my humidor, 5 months more than that one.  It's a little spongy feeling, softer than the 5+ old ones I have aging.  No harshness or bite.

Kicking up the spice. Flavor is similar to the Joya de Nicaragua Antano CT I smoked last night, minus the cream, but more caramel flavors.  It seems the Nicaraguan tobaccos stand out, I don't know.

It's another windy night out.  Came back from a Halloween party pretty tired, finishing the tequila from my flask.  So far, full of smoke, burning good, should get at least an hour out of this one.  If you read my review of the 1844 Reserve, it was a two hour smoke, but should have burned twice as fast due to its pluggedness.

This one started to burn a little uneven, but now even with no touch up.  Still hanging it's 1+ inch ash.

Finally dropped the ash, leaving  a decent cone.  Still same cedar and leather tastes with more spice.

It's definitely different than most Cameroon cigars.  Has same spicy, smooth taste, but much more leathery flavors.  An old school profile.  Leaves pepper and earth on your palate.

Still medium profile, but picking up strength.  Adding more caramel and nutty flavors.

More deep leathery flavors.  Now pretty relaxed this Saturday night.  Jerry Garcia is jamming out 'Think' with his own band.

I'm getting a good buzz.

Got about an hour now and it's still smooth and spicy.  Maybe more smooth, but stronger.  It's almost midnight and I'm fully relaxed.  Tasting caramel and toasted nuts.

"Momma take that pillow from under my head...then you'll need that true religion" playing from Hot Tuna.  I think I'm done for the night.  A great song to finish  a great cigar.

To the nub and full of smoke.  Overall it's very satisfying and flavorful.  Look forward to smoking again.

Overall: 90
