Romeo Y Julieta Romeo San Andres Piramides Review
Romeo Y Julieta Romeo San Andres Piramides Cigar Review
10/21/2022
This is a stronger and very different blend to the normal Romeo lines. Every who has smoked a dozen smokes in their life has heard of this brand. They've always been a decent mild and medium smoke that just about anyone can enjoy at any budget.
This one is a team up between Altaldis, AJ Fernandez, who recently is a cigar superstar, and Aging Room,s Rafael Nodal.
What invited me to this one was the San Andres wrapper from Mexico. Some of my favorite cigars wear this wrapper. I hope this one is similar. The binder is Nicaraguan and fillers from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic.
Also, recently the price is right. A box for around $90 works out to $4.50 a piece.
Box says 2018 packing, if I'm reading it right. I've let the smokes age out of the cellophane 2 weeks.
Let's light this pyramid up. It's more of a Belicoso as the shape is the same the whole cigar past the band.
Starts up with an easy draw of dry and peppery smoke. I must note it's Friday night and I've put the kids to sleep and have been shooting down a few shots of Monte Alban tequila. This is a Mexican tobacco smoke so it should pair, right? I think a charred oak aged bourbon may pair better, but I'm going to make it work.
Burn and volume of smoke is perfect. The pepper flavors are strong but not lingering. The aftertaste is mild, leaving a little creamy molasses taste. Many cigars have spiciness that lingers, but this one is the opposite. It tastes peppery but leaves sweet flavors on your palate. Maybe a slight spiciness that lingers.
After about 20 minutes, it's dropped the long ash and a perfect cone has formed. It is smoking fast. Been medium mostly in flavor. Seems more refined now, only subtle flavors. Many subtle flavors: sweet caramel, licorice, light wood flavors, and maybe some graham cracker taste. Not much aftertaste now. Very smooth, almost too smooth, hope it kicks it up a notch.
Starting to add some body and depth after 30 or more minutes. Burn has been perfect. Starting to kick up the spice, lingering on my tongue now. Like a molasses soaked piece of wood. Still very refined, subtle flavors, building more body and flavor. Very satisfying without being overpowering.
Starting to relax now after about 40 minutes. Can slowly smoke it and enjoy the flavors. Maybe it's the final shot of tequila or the body is kicking in. I'm fully relaxed. It's been a good Friday night. No complaints on this cigar. Still very smooth and full of flavor. Not super sweet. Very balanced.
Leaving more rich flavors on my palate. Changing more to roasted peppers with a charred bourbon oak barrel taste.
A smoke that I can't really compare to other cigars I've smoked. It has its own profile, all while rich but refined. No harshness, been smooth throughout.
About an hour in and I like it. Not the best, but very satisfying. Always leaving good flavors.
Down to the last inch and has never gotten hot or overpowering. Can smoke to the nub.
Is it box worthy? Yes, for $5. If for $8 or $9, no. There's better smokes for $8, but this one does a lot of good things. Finishing strong, at an hour and 15 minutes, and I'm thoughorily enjoying it. Good Friday night smoke. Highly recommended.
Overall: 92
Flavor 91, complexity 91, burn 94, experience 93, value 92.
Smoking one of these now. Great cigar from start to finish. Seeing these for like $90 a box. What a deal. Burns perfect and is all around great. Better than almost all of the Romeos I've smoked.
