Southern Draw Rose of Sharon Toro cigar review

Southern Draw Rose of Sharon Toro cigar review

12/5/2022

Got a sampler of these Southern Draw cigars and have been somewhat impressed.  This is the first time smoking this Connecticut Equadorian grown wrapped smoke.  Like all of Robert Holt's cigars, they are Nicaraguan origin with Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. Price at slightly below $10 a stick, they ain't cheap but have rave reviews.  My reviews have been mixed but favorable.

Named after Robert's wife, I think he's not foolish enough to make this one not good.  I know if I put my wife's name on something I made, it better be the best I got.  I can't even think of an excuse to explain that one if it flops.  I'm gonna bet this one is one of his best.  The guy seems pretty smart.

Lights up easily and has an easy draw of smooth mellow smoke.  So far it is delicious.  This might be the best start to any cigar Ive smoked.  But I've had cigars go south quick.  It's burning without any runs.  I taste caramel sweetness and nutty flavors with a slight hint of spice and cedar.  It is great so far.

Did I mention it's a terrible night for smoking? It just rained all day, 47 degrees out, and the trees are still dripping, some drops right on my head.  I wiped down my seat, chopped up some dry wood to smaller wood so it'd burn quicker.  Got it the fire barely burning, smoke all in my face, not much heat, just smoke.  But the cigar is smoking great and tastes better than your average $7 smoke.

So far, this is a winner. Not strong, not mild, but medium overall.  If it strengthens, it will be great.  And it's burning slower than the previous Southern Draw cigars, which is a big plus.

Starting to taste a light nutty candy bar aftertaste.  You can call it earthy and leathery but very smooth and creamy.  Not like a cheaper Nicaraguan.  It has no harshness at all, just all around smooth and creamy.

Sure, it could be stronger, but it is just right.  I'm getting clouds of deep flavors of nutty and toasted caramel flavors.  It's just right.  This cigar has been aging 3 months and it is very smooth and refined.  My palate is left with sweet flavors.  It's definitely stronger than before and just getting better and deeper flavors.  Now tickling my nose.  Can really pick up the cedar and toasted nuts.

Yeah, I'd put my wife's name on this one, without worry.

Still a crappy night with rain drops hitting me every minute, but I'm thoroughly enjoying every minute of this cold night.  Fire is barely burning and blowing all in my face.  Haven't had to touch up the cigar once.  That's pretty amazing in itself.  And I'm smoking it pretty hard, which is what I like about this one.  It just smokes perfect.

Rain drops all on my keyboard, but it won't stop smoking great.  It is only getting better.

How about LA Guns jamming Ballad of Jane live to end it?  A great Ballad and a perfect end to this cigar.  Medium to Full finish with same great flavors.  Not super complex, but no way a boring smoke.  It picks up strength and develops into a deep flavored profile.  A lot of flavors on my palate.

About an hour in and worth the price.  I look forward to the 2 others I have.  If the price is right, I'll buy a box.

It's not overbearing, just all medium flavors that build into a great finish.  Definitely a great cigar meant to satisfy.  Can smoke to the nub.  Worth a try for anyone and all good flavors for any time.

Overall: 93

Flavor 93, complexity 90, burn 95, experience 94, value 92.
