Montecristo Platinum Series Toro cigar review

Montecristo Platinum Series Toro cigar review

12/19/2022

Ive had this one aging a good year or so.  First lighting, it is tasting pretty strong.  Most of the Platinum line have been pretty mild to medium, but this one seems different.  Most that I've smoked have been from 5 to 10 years ago, although smoked recently.  I think I got this one a year ago.  Maybe they spiced it up, as I definitely taste some strong pepper and earthy flavors.  It's like a full flavored Nicaraguan, which I think is what this really is.

It's pretty good.  If you want to know about my previous H. Upmann Cameroon experience, you can read about me throwing that one away into my backyard as it was unsmokable.  But I'm not omparing this to a crap smoke.  This is a top notch smoke and it is really good so far.

It's another cold night here in Georgia, 35 to 40 now.  No wind, big fire, so I'm enjoying myself with my tequila and music playing outside.  No work tomorrow.  I deserve to enjoy a fine smoke.

10 minutes in and it has smoothed out a bit, but still very full flavored.

Yeah, it's burning perfect, no touch ups at all.  Can really taste the red and black pepper.  Just a tad sweet nuttiness.  I normally favor a more medium sweeter profile, but I'm really enjoying the strong profile of this one.  I'd say this one is not for beginners.  It is strong and really flavors your palate with strong Nicaraguan tastes.

Don't confuse this with the Old Dominican Montecristo.  This one is very complex.  It's trying to be a Cuban.  Very complex.  I'm now tasting charred oak and dried fruit.  It supposedly has Dominican, Peru, and Nicaraguan fillers.  It smooth and creamy like a Dominican, but has the bite of a Nicaraguan.  Makes for a very interesting cigar.  A lot different than the previous platinum blends from the past.

35 minutes in and still smooth.  Leaves a spicy fruity taste on the tip of your tongue.

I guess it goes really well with the fruitiness of the 2 Finger tequila.  Yeah, it a cheap tequila, but overall has a good fruity flavor to go along with the dried fruit from this smoke.  I like it a lot.  Try it.

Along with the fruity taste, can taste cedar and wood.  You could say it is more mellow now, but still pretty strong.  Not kicking my ass, but can feel it some.

Never needing a touch up and full of clouds of smoke.  It's pretty damn good.  Palate is full of oak and dried fruit with some dark molasses.

Getting to the last inch and it just keeps developing deeper flavors.  It's very relaxing now.  Just going to slowly enjoy the last inch.  This is what smoking cigars is all about.  Grateful Dead jamming San Fran winterland Dark Star 1974 is about as relaxing as it gets.

Yes, I smoked till it was burning my fingers and it is all that.
