Hoyo de Monterey Double Corona cigar review

Hoyo de Monterey Double Corona cigar review

3/11/2023

Its been a long time since I've smoked a Hoyo cigar but they have always been pretty consistently good.  The regular blend and the Excalibur have been their most sold and best blends, at least in my experience.

This one is 6.75 x 48.  Long and skinny.  Equadorian Sumatra wrapper, Connecticut broadleaf binder, and Dominican / Honduran / Nicaraguan fillers.  These have been made in Honduras for a really long time.

Pretty flavourful right away.  A little toasted caramel taste.  Been drinking coke and Cazadores tequila.  Seems to bring out the sweetness.  Not mild, but still smooth and easy smoking. Very slight spice left on the palate, but very good flavor of sweet dark root beer like taste left lingering.  And it only been like 5 to 10 minutes.

Check out the ash.  I haven't had very many split out the ash like this.  These have only aged 2 or 3 months in my humidor.  So far, seems well aged.

It's definitely  a more full profile.  Still smooth, but full flavored. First inch has been consistently good and strong flavors of root beer and molasses like darkness.

I'm going to go ahead and say I am really liking all of the flavors of this one, a lot.  I admit, I'm used to holding  a bigger cigar, so I'm already thinking this one will leave me short, but so far it is very satisfying. Feels so light in my fingers, but it is so concentrated in its flavor.  Let's hope it holds out and stays this good for an hour.

It smokes so easy and is perfect  to me in strength.  After 20 minutes, my palate is left with lingering flavors of molasses and charred oak.  I guess I'll slow down.  Maybe take a Cazadores drank break.

OK after a palate cleansing of sweet tequila, this cigar is still so sweet and smooth, but full flavored of dark oak.  Slight earthiness, but majority of the flavor is sweet soda flavors with some spiciness.  Man, this just tastes great.

I bought a five pack.  Will smoke more and if consistent, I'm gonna search out a box buy.  Yep, it's that good.  Not too strong, but full flavored, so could smoke on most occasions.  I

I mean, my palate is so full of good flavors.  It is Saturday night and I'd like it to be a full bodied  smoke, but I have 2 inches left and it is satisfying enough.  No regrets.

The flavors on my palate are just great.  More spiciness and cedar is coming through now.  It's a damn fine smoke.

I'm gonna say these are much better than the ones I smoked years ago.  Much smoother and more defined with bold straight forward good flavors.  Never a bad flavor or harshness, just good strong good flavors.  And it's pretty strong, I feel it now.  I mean damn it is good.

The finish is great.  I'm going to get an hour of all good strong flavors.  And it has but up all of the said flavors x2 on the finish without any harshness at all.

Maybe I'm drunk, but this has been exactly what I'm wanting a cigar to be.  Finishing nice and strong.  Fully relaxed at the end.  Sure, it's perspective, but it's what I want a smoke to be and it delivered.

I'm gonna be smoking more of these for sure.
