Cusano 1959 Rare Cameroon Toro cigar review

I have couple of these from a box I bought over 10 years ago. If I remember correctly, these are the work of the Davidoff blender Henke Kelner. Cameroon wrapped Dominicans were my go to smokes back then. It seems the trend has moved from these to Nicaraguan cigars and I can agree with the consensus. But I still love a spicy and sweet Cameroon on a mild to medium blend. These are more medium than the other competitors back then.
Starts off smooth and mild. Builds quickly into some spices and cedar. Lots of smooth smoke. Then the spiciness kicks in with some sweet nuttiness. Yeah, this is one of the best Cameroon Dominicans from back then. Leaves a great sweet spiciness on your palate with aftertaste of nuts.
Tons and tons of smoke on this warm night. It is going well with the Ron Anejo Carupano 6 year rum. If you like a smooth sugary tasting rum then try this economical one. It goes great with a Cameroon smoke.
Still pretty medium after 30 min. Flavor has gotten more sweet, like toasted caramel and spice. Lots of flavor left on your palate. No bite or any sense of dryness for such an easy smoking cigar. It's definitely a top notch Dominican. I used to smoke mostly Dominicans and most were great but most had a slight papery bite to it. This one is aged so long it has nothing but good flavors going on.
It seems to have slowed down in burn but kept a steady stream of smoke and flavor. Yeah, you can't buy these any more, but this is what distinguishs this one from a Fuente or similar Cameroon - it lasts much longer and keeps delivering great flavors throughout.
Getting to the last inch or two. It has transitioned to more bold cedar flavors along with the sweetness and spiciness. Very satisfying for a late night smoke.
The last inch has really kicked in some very strong spice. Can't really puff it hard without getting too much spicy flavor. But the aftertaste still is sweet with so many flavors lingering. I'd describe it as super interesting, although a bit overpowering. To me, it's a great finish to such a sweet and flavorful cigar. Really it's like a great Corojo cigar now.
Yeah it makes me kind of sad that Cusano didn't get the recognition it deserves from these a decade ago and the brand is a thing if the past. We'll that's why I buy so many cigars, because ones like this keep you trying to find and keep the good ones.
Overall: 93
Flavor 93, complexity 94, burn 92, experience 92, value 92
