Oliva Serie V Torpedo cigar review

Oliva Serie V Torpedo cigar review

5/5/2023

This one is the first smoke from my 2nd sampler pack that I think is at least a year and half been aging.

This torpedo appears fat and perfectly rolled, as it should for a $10 smoke.  There's stiff competition at these prices, but there's a reason these are top sellers.  It's just an all around great, satisfying smoke.  Oliva is world class, delivering very consistent quality and no gimmicks.

You know this one is good.  Nicaraguan puro with sun grown wrapper and ligero fillers from the Jalapa Valley. If it tastes as good as it smells, then it's a winner.

Hey its Cinco de Mayo.  Skipped the crowds this time and had a better skillet steak that was marinated in lime and spices for a day.  Along with guacamole and cheese dip, I topped it off with Herradura tequila shots chased with my custom margaritas with fresh mint.  This cigar better live up to the hype if it's goona top my night.

Right away I taste some nice spices, some sweetness and cedar. It's a thick cigar, so I'm already fulfilled with great flavors.  Full of smoke, full flavor right away, and still pretty smooth.  Yep, if it doesn't stumble, it's a winner already.

Cinco de Mayo in Georgia usually means drinking margaritas on a patio in warm weather.  Tonight it's cloudy and 55 degrees.  No wind.  Perfect smoking weather.  Got my fire going.  Too hot to get too close, but this is what it's all about.  Wood is so dry that I have to smooth it down to keep it from burning too hot.

An inch and 15 min in and it has strengthened to more caramel sweetness on the tip of my tongue with great flavors of spicy candy and cedar aftertaste.  Yeah this one is aged well and very smooth and flavorful.

Very easy to smoke.  Perfectly rolled.  I don't need to say, for a thick one, it's never hot and never a bit of harshness.  Just clouds of thick full flavored smoke.

It is Cinco de Mayo.  Is it the tequila or the cigar - I don't know but I'm already fully relaxed.  This is what it is all about.

Miles Davis and John Coltrane So What is now jamming loud on my patio.  About as relaxed as you can get.

Cigar hasn't transitioned too much, which is actually good, because I don't want to lose that good flavor.  Still it is a very interesting cigar.  So many great flavors of caramel and spice.  It does have that strong earthy Nicaraguan undertone but the spicy sweetness is just so great.  It's why this one is a top seller.  Even a mild or medium loving smoker will love the full flavors of this one.

Getting pretty strong now.  All kind of flavors linger on my palate.

This definitely a box worthy smoke, if you can afford it.  Even if you can't, it's worth a 5 pack for a great Friday night.  I'm gonna add some more of these.  It damn worth it.  Ask for a raise.

I'm going to finish it jamming out to Jerry Garcia Band They Love Each Other.  OK one more song by Phish you enjoy myself.

Over an hour of smoking and it is topping out with strong Nicaraguan flavors.  It's definitely a full bodied smoke at the end and just highlights it's full potential.  Got to let the flavors crescendo.

Even to the nub it has a load of great flavors.  Yeah it hits the spot on a Friday night.

Overall: 94

Flavor 94, complexity 92, burn 94, experience 94, value 93.
