Montecristo Classic Churchill Review
Montecristo Classic Churchill Review
10/7/2022
I've had this one in the humidor for a year or two from a 5 pack. I've always liked the Montecristo line of cigars going back 20 or so years. I guess they introduced me to the premium mild cigars when I first started getting into cigars 20+ years ago. I still remember the artisan cigars with the fancy boxes and artwork. Seemed like a gimmick, but those were some of the smoothest smoking cigars that I can remember. Lately, it seems you got to pay way too much to get a good Montecristo. But, they still make fine cigars, but prices are way up there for a decent smoke.
Let's review this one that is priced like some kind of rare boutique premium. It's a beauty of a stick, but I must note that a few of them had some cracks in the wrapper after sitting undisturbed in my controlled humidor. If it still smokes good, I won't knock it down. I understand premium wrappers are very delicate, but come on, for the price, you need a warranty or something. Also, I will note, I'm not really into mild cigars. I've lately been into Nicaraguan and Mexican San Andres wrappers. But, if it is smooth, creamy, smokes a long time, I'll rate it high. Tonight is Friday night, not too cool, but I'll be burning a fire to keep me entertained, along with some 4 Rose Bourbon and Amazon music from my outdoor speakers. Let's light her up.
Right away it is smooth and creamy, as it should be. This is the signature of the Montecristo, so it better do what it's supposed to immediately if it wants to stay mainstream. A little spice with a smooth draw. Still mild, but already leaving good aftertaste. Definitely a perfected blend. As I said, I'm not a fan of mild cigars, but I can see why they charge $14 for one of these, so far, we will see.
It's not so mild that you might not know it's lit if the winds blowing. I've had cigars that I've smoked fishing in a strong wind that I thought went out, but realize it's smoking super quick. This one, as I said, leaves pretty good flavors on your palate, as a fine cigar should do, even if a mild one. Tastes of caramel now, losing a little of the aftertaste. Got an almost 2 inch ash now after 20 minutes. Burning good, slightly uneven, but no touch up needed. Dropped its ash, good cone forming.
Evening out now. No hotness, just rich creamy loads of smoke. Still mild flavors with no bite. It's definitely a top notch cigar for someone wanting to smoke a mild one and wanting great to experience what smoking is all about. Maybe it's the bourbon, but I'm starting to feel the body of it, after 1/3 into it. Newbies might have to put it down. I like it.
I do smoke em faster than most. This one will go on forever. I keep on puffing it hard and it delivers creamy smooth flavors.
Not as smooth as the White series, but does a little more in flavors, just not as refined. But this one has much more body and will give it to you full dose. 45 minutes in and I'm feeling it. I usually smoke mostly without drinking anything. I'm going to take a break and take a last shot of bourbon and replenish my palate with coke.
I can see why it's a $14 smoke. It's meant to smoke for 2 hours. So smooth and making me slow down. I like medium to strong bodied cigars and this one is kicking in the nicotine. I got an hour into it and you better have a full playlist on your speakers. I'm jamming to the Door's Riders on the storm and am glad I just had a full steak dinner. I've got to sit back relax, and enjoy this one.Sure, there are better tasting cigars out there that are cheaper, but that is not what this is about. This one is meant for mild smoking flavor, but kicking your ass with relaxation for a long, long time. Great for a Friday night by the campfire. Now playing Grateful Dead Going Down the Road Feeling Bad. This one suites going where the climate suites my clothes. This treats you the way you want be treated, just smooth and good experiences. You don't want it to end, but you want to hear the next song. I want to put it down. It's kicking in. This mild stick will kick your ass.
I'm going to try to finish it. About an hour and half and I'm about finished. Still have probably 30 minutes left. This ain't no smoke for a rookie.
Overall a hell of a cigar. Don't smoke on the golf course unless you smoke it for 4 hours. It will knock you down. Delivers consistent smooth smoking pleasure. Not much complexity, but delivers an infinity of smoking pleasure. Will smoke again when I have 3 hours of time to fully enjoy it.
Overall: 90
Flavor 88, complexity 86, burn 93, experience 93, value 88.
