Alec Bradley Nica Puro Robusto Cigar Review

Alec Bradley Nica Puro Robusto Cigar Review

11/12/2022

Im a big Alec Bradley fan.  Consistent qualityand decent prices.  He runs a good brand all around.

This one, I think is now phased out.  I've had this one for like a year or two from a sampler.  Easy to explain the construction.  It's all Nicaraguan as the name suggests.  Let's light her up.

First tastes are different than what I was expecting from a Nicaraguan puro.  This one is sweet and creamy.  It does have some earthiness and nutty flavors.  Burning pretty decent on this really cold and windy night.  It does require minor touch up.

So far it's smooth, creamy with a bit of spice.

Did I mention it's cold.  Yep, it was 62 last night.  Now it 42 and dropping to below freezing tonight with a 12mph wind.  But, I just chopped some year old wood and it is maximum heat after 5 minutes of my torch.

Got to back up now, knees heating up.

Dropped the over one inch ash.  Slight cone, this one is burning good.  20 minutes in and it about half done.  Now has picked up a lot more earthy and woody flavors.  I like it.  I would prefer a larger cigar but this one is doing everything right.

A tad dry taste, but overall a good profile.  Leaves good sweetness and nutty flavors on your palate.  Seems it is losing its spice.  Has a classic Nicaraguan taste, not too complex, but good overall.  Medium in strength and flavors so far.

Has picked up some boldness in flavor.  Been burning perfect.  It seems the spice has returned.  Profile is now more medium to full.

Been drinking 3 tequilas tonight, which seem to go well with this one.  Started off with Herradura Silver (to me, the best top shelf brand), then Cazadores Blank (the best tequila for the money), finishing with cheap but good Two Fingers Silver.

Seems to highlight the sweetness of the agave in the tequila.  Great combination.

Still has a good creaminess even though stronger earthy flavors.  Body is still medium.  Could probably smoke this one midday.

Got 40 minutes in and have an inch left.  A good thing, as the wind is picking up and temp is dropping fast.

Finishing a little harsh.  Not bad, but would be great if it was smoother and more refined.  Still satisfying.  You could call it full flavored now, but not fully refined in body.

It's finishing strong, just not in a good way.  A bit too harsh.  I always smoke to the nub.  The end has lost the creamy, sweetness.  It is now spice and raw, rough flavors.  It's complex, but not in a good way.  Maybe that's why it's discontinued.

Overall it's pretty good, just finishes rough. If it kicked in the nicotine, I'd give it a pass.  But it is just average overall.  Not bad, but not one I'd buy again.

Overall: 88

Flavor 87, complexity 91, burn 90, experience 86, value 88.
