El Rey del Mundo Robusto Lara Review

El Rey del Mundo Robusto Lara Cigar Review

11/2/2022

If you haven't smoke this brand, you are missing out.  El Rey del Mundo has been around forever and continue to deliver great cigars at cheap prices.  I've bought 3 or 4 boxes over the last 15 years and every cigar has been very consistent and satisfying.

The Robusto Larga is basically a Toro.  Usually you can pick these up for $3 to $4.  They are listed as medium - full, which they are not.  All the ones I've smoked were pretty mild.  You can call it medium.  They are wrapped in paper, which is different  and I can't really say why or why not.  I think these are just old school style cigars and they stick to that old tradition.  Nothing wrong with that.

First inch is mild overall. Can taste many flavors all at once.  Does have a slight hot, harshness.  Maybe that's why they call it med-full, to make you think that bite is boldness.  But, I do taste cedar, pepper, chocolate, and slight sweetness.  And it is developing some creaminess.  Leaves a great flavor of the above flavors on your palate.

Loose draw and pretty smooth, with slight bite.  Overall, good taste and no bad flavors.  Burn is good.  Check out the ash hanging. Shit, just dropped the almost 2 inch ash as I was about to take a picture. I remember one of the first one of these I smoked, from a Robusto sampler box of 20, the ash hung on for 3/4 of the cigar.  These are definitely rolled by experienced rollers.

Burning perfect, almost 30 minutes in.  It seems the slight bite is gone.  Now I taste more peppery, earthy flavors with a cholate sweetness undertone.

I just realized I didn't mention what is in this cigar.  It's Honduran binder and fillers with a oscueo wrapper.  Other websites say filler is combination of Honduran, Dominican, and Nicaraguan tobaccos.  From my experience, it is the latter, a complex blend.

I'd say it is all medium now.  Smooth, flavorful, creamy, medium body.  Definitely nowhere near full, but leaving stronger flavors on your palate. You can smoke this golfing or fishing.  Still a great cigar to smoke to end a good day.  I mean, come on, where are going to find an under $4 cigar to deliver these flavors and enjoyment?  If you can pay $3, you'll won't find a better cigar.

Very smooth now.  Stronger flavors of pepper with dark chocolate and dried fruit.  No harshness now at all.  I do taste the blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos, with the creamy Dominican and Honduran spiceness.  Definitely stepping above it's grade.

It's kicking in strength.  Almost an hour now.  We'll worth the price and more.

For the price, why not have a box of these? Is it a Padron 1964? No, but at 1/4 the price, it a damn good cigar.

Finish to the nub is still great.  A little hot now, but still great flavors.  I'm gonna smoke it all.  Total relaxation now.  Still no harshness.  My palate has great aftertaste.  What more do you want?

Overall a great smoke.

Overall: 91

Flavor 88, complexity 90, burn 92, experience 91, value 95.
