Aging Room Quattro Original Toro cigar review
Aging Room Quattro Original Toro cigar review
1/23/2023
Ive had a few and these and I think this is my last one. It's aged in my humidor for at least a year now. To be honest, I was not impressed. I think I had a 5 pack of different sizes. This is a Toro version, which recently has become my favorite size.
Well, this one is a Dominican with Sumatra wrapper and the rest is all Dominican. Dominican used to be my favorite smokes, so this one should be up my alley. I do prefer Nicaraguan smokes now, but I still pull out some of my favorite Dominicans and remember why I like them. Dominicans are usually creamy, milder, and more cedar flavors than others.
Starts off mild to medium with a nutty, cedar, and toasted fruit taste. Has a slight bite to it, but still pretty smooth.
Right away it develops a strong, nutty flavor with some spice. Lots of flavor at first. It is smoking quick.
Burn is perfect. Although it has only burning 10 min. For the "professional" reviewers, I guess a quick one will give them all they want. Well, for me, I want an experience from each smoke. This one, so far, has given me what I want, but I'm a little worried that my experience may be short lived. Not even 15 min in and done one third.
It's cold out tonight, about 35 degrees. But I'm lucky, no wind at all, so I'm toasty by my fire.
It's picking up a little more cedar flavor and more wood and leather. Lots of raw tobacco flavor. It's pretty good.
But, I'm afraid to set it down to go get a shot of liquor, as by the time I come back it's going to be half way done, burning the band.
20 min in and I'm half done. Great, easy draws of good flavors. Bite of cedar and spice on my pallet. It definitely delivers the good flavors. I'm not smoking it hard either.
Let me take a liquor break and hope the fire reaches max temp before I return to finish the last half, if any is left.
Alright, I'm back. Cigar is burning great. Fire is perfect. Just removed the main band from the cigar. Cigar has a deep cedar flavor, with roasted oak, dried fruit and nuts. Still medium profile. Hasn't really developed the profile. Flavors have changed some, but overall profile is the same cedar, wood, and nuts. It is tasty, but it like a drive by delivery.
I don't want to write too much, as it will be done. Great flavor, but too quick.
I haven't had time to bring up cost, which, to me, is pretty damn important in a cigar review. I didn't pay the $10 a piece price. But, I think most folks would be pretty left unsatisfied if they spent ten bucks to burn their fingers after 30 to 40 minutes.
It's kind of hard to write a great review when the cigar is burning your fingers after 35 min.
The last inch is kind of harsh. I am maybe feeling some relaxation, but it's about to burn my fingers and it kind of finishing harsh.
40 min in and I'm a little disappointed. It could of been great if they rolled it to last like 10 minutes longer before going rogue. And it's definitely aged enough.
Left just finish it. To get fulfillment tonight, I think I might have to light another smoke so I don't waste a good fire and a good night.
This was just a good cigar, poorly executed.
Overall: 87
Flavor 89, complexity 88, burn 91, experience 85, value 85.
After note: I did light up a Partagas classic Rothschild which smokes just as quick, but much cheaper Dominican. It is delivering similar flavors and is building into some good flavors too. The Aging Room cigar is better but costs twice as much and didn't really delevope much. The Partagas smoke has a much better finish. I sometimes like a good quick smoke, but it has to finish great. The difference is the Partagas smokes quick if you want it to. I can make it pull slow, but the Aging Room seems to burn quick no matter how you smoke it, not good. And, in a quick smoke, it had better finish great, which the Partagas does. It's the difference between a known great smoke and a drive by trendy brand. Both big brand blends, but the difference is in proven loyal experiences.
