Fratello The Texan Toro cigar review

Fratello The Texan Toro cigar review

1/14/2023

This is, I think, the 2nd Fratello cigar I have ever smoked.  The Navetta Inverso I reviewed I gave a 94, which I think is the highest rating I've given.  That's a lot to live up to.  This cigar, I bought a 10 pack sampler of different blends for $25.  I bought 2 as my hopes are up that all of these Fratello cigars are great, even the cheaper camouflage banded ones.  This one is a Toro, which is not the huge Texan that it originally came out as.  This one is 6 x 50.

So this is supposed to be med / full with equadorian wrapper, Sumatra binder, and Dominican Piloto Cubano Ligero, Dominican Andullo, Nicaraguan Estelï, Pennsylvanian Ligero fillers.  Sounds good and strong so I'm a gonna light her up.

Nice nutty, cedary, peppery flavor upon first puffs.  Wind picked up and it's 34 out tonight.  Too cold and windy last night to smoke one.  Tonight is just as cold but not quite as windy.  Built a big fire.  Already touched up the first part of the cigar as the wind is still a bitch.  My lighter died so I'm using my huge torch.  Anyway, fire is going good and I'm starting to taste the flavors of this cigar.

Yep, it's tasting as good as I hoped.  Not mild, not harsh, a little first bite of pepper. A creamy and woodsy flavor comes out.  Spiciness adds to the woodsy flavor. Not a sweet  cigar, but has a mellow sweet undertone.  Maybe the ligero is overpowering the sweetness with deep toasted oak and spice.  It's pretty good so far, even while the cold wind blows the hot air from the fire away from me.

I'm smoking this one really fast due to the wind.  Won't hold an ash.  Picking up some leathery notes on top of the cedar and spice.  Sweetness is coming in now.  Like a toffee popcorn flavor with nuts.

Thanks to nature for giving me the dry wood to burn from a year ago.  Cigar is going or I'd be freezing out here.  It's gone from medium to more full now.  Still sweet, but adding some rich toasted oak flavors.  Toasted marshmallow graham cracker flavor overwhelms my pallet.  This isn't a small cigar and it's overwhelming me with great flavors, but I wish I had the true texan version that is humongous.  All this wind makes it smoke too quick.  I have 3 more of these to smoke in better times.  It's just a great smoke all around.

Even with the wind, it's needed no corrections.

It's definitely getting stronger.  Feeling it now.  Palate full of cedar, oak, and spice.

I've only had this one a week in the humidor.  I can imagine it will get better.

Still no harshness.  Just rich creamy full flavors to the end.  A great  cigar to end the night.

Full bodied and toasted marshmallow flavors.  Cedar and spice on top.  Just a great all around smoke.  Definitely look forward to smoking another one.

Slow smoking at the end, full of flavor, so can't stop smoking it.

Will finish this one with Jerry  Garcia Sitting in Limbo jamming outside by the fire and it is just as great as the sax playing on this cold night.

Overall: 92

Flavor 92, complexity 92, burn 91, experience 92, value 93.
