Gran Habano 3 SLS Robusto cigar rev

 12/6/2023

I'm a huge fan of the Gran Habano  Corono #5 , but I admit I haven't tried too many of their other many varieties.

This one has been aging about 4 months in my humidor.  I only have one from a sampler.

It has a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with Costa Rican and Nicaraguan binder fillers.  As of today it seemsany places have these as obsolete, but I see some places still have these at some cheap prices, like less than e bucks.  If good, better order up now before they're gone.

Did I mention it's cold as hell tonight?  Gonna smoke a little early as it is supposed to drop to the 20's tonight.  That's what what a good fire pit is all about.

Do you want to know a simple trick to get your fire going quickly?  Dump a few ounces of bacon grease into some parchment paper and light it up under your wood.  Oh yeah, a propane torch helps get it going.

Alright, I'll light the cigar up now.

I'm not gonna lie.  The first few puffs have great flavors of oak, cedar, and toasted marshmallows.  Way too early to say it's good, but very good first few minutes.

And I'm not cold at all.  My tricks have a very hot fire in only a few minutes.

Developing some stronger woodsy flavors and peppery flavors.  Really good.

WTf.  Look at the picture.  It's burning a hole from the inside.  20+ years, never had one do this.  I think I just pulled in some ash through the cigar.  What a shame.

I wanted a somewhat quick smoke, like 45 mins.  But now it ain't even pulling.  Having to light it up to get it going.  Probably will use an inch.

Too bad I only have one of these to review.  It's now gone from a strong smoke to a mild one that needs relite.

Maybe this is why these are obsolete.

The cigar is pretty light and soft.  Definitely needs to be more dense to burn better.

After touching it up it's back to full strength.  Well, probably med to full.  But half has burnt and a third of that burn was lost.

It's now burning decent.  Still way too loose.  Taste is too strong now of wood.  Ash won't stay.  It's just poorly rolled.

Burning too fast to really enjoy it and give a rating.  Has some remnants of good flavors.  But not worth the effort.  To be honest, they should recall these, which may explain why they are obsolete.

Starting to taste bad now, at the last inch or two.

Wow.  Started as one of the best and went to one of the worst I've smoked in a year.  I'm gonna finish it by my perfect fire.  It's only Wednesday.  If it was Friday, I'd probably throw it out and light a new one.  Smokers deserve better than this.  This is a strong don't buy.  But, try the Corono #5.  It's like a different company.  I've smoked dozens of them and every one is good.  I dont know this brand.  But what a shame.  Management needs to wake up.  Or don't and keep your good ones cheap and I'll buy for cheap and never venture to your other ones.

Hard to run a company like this.  Anyway.  That's my review.

Let me add.  Pinching the last inch and smoking the nub and burning my lips, it pretty good the last 2 to 3 mins. But too little too late.

Overall:82

Flavor 88, complexity 87, burn 60, experience 82, value 85.
